The £85 bauble that celebrates William and Catherine’s first Christmas as married couple

To celebrate the newlyweds’ first Christmas together, Royal Crown Derby has produced an £85 bauble that will be very popular with fans of the young couple.

The 11cm porcelain oval displays the ornately intertwined initials of Catherine and William on the front, with the inscription ‘Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, 29th April 2011.’

It is hand-finished in 22ct gold and only 1,500 of the baubles will be made.

At least one of them is bound to be hanging on the tree at Sandringham – where Catherine and William will be spending Christmas with the Royal family.

Prince William, Kate Middleton Receive Lots of Letters

Prince William and Kate Middleton have been receiving tons of fan mail since their nuptials back in April. The royal couple does read some of the letters that they receive, and every person that pens a letter receives something back (as long as there is a return address) from the Palace.

“There was everything from posters made by classes of schoolchildren to cards sent by other members of the public,” says a Palace aide. Of course it’s very exciting to receive an acknowledgment in return and there are many people writing to them (possibly for that reason)—the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have received 60,000 messages thus far!

Many children have been writing letters to wish Prince William and Kate Middleton well, and the letters that they are receiving in return are keepsakes. It’s lovely to be able to look up to the Prince and his Princess and to know that fan mail isn’t being shoved aside or thrown in the garbage.

William-Kate raise £625,000 for Charity!

British royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton have helped to raise £625,000 for a charity, after hosting a special dinner.

The royal couple have also been making unnannounced trips to various UK charities, following a family tradition championed by the late Princess Diana.

Running or founding charities has long been a favored pastime for Britain’s royals. Prince Charles, Kate’s father-in-law, is the patron or president of no fewer than 20 charities.

Kate and William to start married life in Kensington Palace

Newlyweds Prince William and Kate Middleton are to start married life by moving into an apartment in the Royal residence of Kensington Palace.

The couple, who married on April 29 this year, will split their time between the Palace and their cottage in Anglesey, Wales, where William works as a search and rescue pilot.

Prince William will no doubt be pleased to return to Kensington Palace, where he grew up with brother Harry.

Sources said Kensington Palace would be their home for about a year until a more “permanent” one is found – suggesting a bigger place will be needed for babies.

Royal Wedding Success

In the split second that Kate Middleton’s dress was finally revealed to be the work of Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, British fashion was universally deemed triumphant, but it also took the national talent for pageantry and sentiment to make the royal wedding such a success.

The bridal gown was glorious, of course – every last inch of lovingly embroidered English lace sewn by the Royal School of Needlework, based at Hampton Court Palace – but the accessories were equally glamorous. It wasn’t just the 1936 halo diamond tiara, lent to the bride by the Queen, but the 1902 state landau carriage in which the happy couple set off from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace, its scarlet upholstery the perfect backdrop to the ivory and white satin wedding dress.

The reception which rolled on until 3am involved about 300 guests, who were entertained by British singer Ellie Goulding and danced under glitterballs in Buckingham Palace’s state rooms, drank champagne and ate bacon butties and ice-cream. Goulding serenaded the newlyweds with her version of Your Song, written by Elton John. The music was heavy on kitschy disco and dance. Lots of Abba, Kanye West and Beyoncé.

Late on Saturday morning, as the happy couple’s helicopter lifted off from the garden of Buckingham Palace and Prince Charles reclaimed his Aston Martin, minus the “Just Wed” plates, the majority of commentators were agreed that the wedding of William and Kate had been a triumph.

Royal Wedding Cake Baker?

In a break with tradition, Kate Middleton and Prince William will have two cakes at their April 29 wedding.

Kate has been integral in the design of the traditional offering – a multi-tiered fruit cake, made by Leicestershire baker Fiona Cairns (pictured).

The second cake – a groom’s cake – is based on a childhood favourite of William’s.

It is an unbaked chocolate biscuit creation, which will be made by McVitie’s according to a secret royal family recipe.

So the lucky baker is Fiona Cairns from Leicestershire! She has been commissioned to make a traditional fruit cake for the couple, which I did find as a bit of a surprise as I thought they would go for a bit of a twist. However the actual design is still a secret so will they go traditional or will they then have a twist? They said that Kate was very clear on what she wanted, we just can’t wait to see it!

The cake will have dried fruits, such as raisins and sultanas, walnuts, cherries even grated oranges and lemon it’s also said to have lots of French brandy and very animal friendly free range eggs. The cake is also rumoured to feature the couples initials.

The Royal Wedding Portrait Made of Food

Crown Carveries, a humble pub and restaurant chain in England, has transformed one of the official royal engagement photographs into edible art to honor Wills and Kate, who tie the knot in just 12 weeks.

Crown Carveries, a humble pub and restaurant chain in England, has transformed one of the official royal engagement photographs into edible art to honor Wills and Kate, who tie the knot in just 12 weeks. The ingredients all come from the roast, a meal English families traditionally enjoy on a Sunday afternoon. Turkey provides the couple with skin, gravy defines their facial features, and beef forms their hair. As for clothing, green beans and sprouts create Will’s shirt, while carrots give Kate her dress.

The vegetable-based masterpiece took a food artist four hours to stir up, according to a statement released on the Crown Carveries web site. The company, which serves all-you-can-eat roasts for $6, isn’t taking itself—or the publicity stunt—too seriously.

“The menu choice for the big day has sparked much debate, and as Crown Carveries is the most regal carvery brand in the U.K, we wanted to produce the first official ‘fork-trait’ using all the majestic ingredients found on one of our princely banquets – a roast with all the trimmings – to give the happy couple a tasteful memento of their special day.” (via Slashfood)

Royal wedding dessert predictions for William and Kate Middleton

Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding meal will be a traditional English affair, according to a former royal chef.

Prince William proposed to Kate last year while they were on a private holiday in Kenya, and it has since announced that the pair will marry at Westminster Abbey in London, England on Friday April 29.

With feverish speculation surrounding the event, Princess Diana’s former chef believes guests will be provided traditional English food for the ceremony. Darren McGrady had an insight into the future King’s palate, cooking for Prince William when he was a child. He confirms that one of the royal’s favourite dishes was banana flan, which he used to serve to him and his brother Prince Harry at Kensington Palace on special instances.
